I'm not sure I know how to "Blog", but thought I would occasionally put some of my thoughts here for anyone who might be interested. Please feel free to email me if you have something to add.
I recently took a 4-day workshop with Carl Dalio, through Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, of which I'm a long-time member (2001). I had studied with Carl about 20-25 years ago when he taught at Denver Art Students' League, as I began learning to paint. Then it was a weekly class, and I always looked forward to it.
When I saw that he was on the workshop list for SAWG, I wasn't sure I could get here that early in the fall, but as things turned out, I was able to get back to Tucson on time. What a week it was! Carl is an excellent teacher, and gave lots of examples of how to use the techniques he demonstrated. Then he had us practice with our own subject matter.
Carl relocated to Sedona, AZ, with a whole new subject matter to paint. He has recently taken up oil painting and was invited to the upcoming "Plein Air Paint Out" in Sedona. He showed us some of the paintings he has done up there, with the wonderful red rocks. He still manages to bounce color reflections into the shadows in oil, just like he does in watercolor.
I learned a lot from Carl 25 years ago, and even more a week ago, now that I am advanced enough to understand what I need to learn. I hope you, too, can take a workshop with him.
Is this a Blog? I don't know, but it's what I'm thinking of right now. --Later
